AYA is not bound by any one particular yoga or spiritual tradition rather we have studied many of the world’s great traditions and see the wisdom in all. We unite these teachings into a cohesive all-encompassing framework that is applicable to modern times.

AYA is committed to offering honest and authentic yoga teachings, supported by our amazing team of yoga teachers. We are also renowned for providing the best Foundation Level Yoga Teacher Training available and are leaders in continuing professional development opportunities for established teachers in the fields of Meditation, Pre/Post Natal, Yin and Teens Yoga.

Preparing for Your Class

When You Arrive:

  • Access to AYA is super easy via tram (1 min walk from High St or Chapel St) or from Prahran train station (approx. 7 min walk)
  • Parking around Prahran is notoriously difficult, so if you have not visited the studio, please leave ample time
  • There is very little street parking available on Clifton Street itself, but some 2 hour places are found in parallel streets and in the small carpark found half way down Clifton Street
  • Otherwise paid parking in the King St carpark (1 min around the corner) is available for when longer stays are required

What to Bring:

  • Everything is provided so you don't need to bring anything, unless you specifically would like to use your own mat
  • Small towels are complementary and large bath towels are for hire
  • Light weight, comfortable yoga clothes are your best choice

Behind the Studio:

Tell us a little bit about how your yoga journey began.

We created AYA in 2000, to fulfil a vision and a purpose to help people to be the best versions of themselves. In 2011, Adele Conti and Melanie Mackintosh joined us, Dominique and Anthony Salerno, in the AYA business.

What inspired you to take the leap and open up your own studio?

We know that to fulfil our own unique purpose in life, we need to serve our community in the best way that we know how and that's through the art and science of yoga and meditation.

Speaking of inspiration, what words do you live by? Name your personal or professional motto.

Our motto is: serve with love, live with passion, lead by example.

What sort of experience are you looking to cultivate when someone steps foot inside your yoga studio?

Urban wellness retreat style, complete with onsite massage and Osteo, courtesy of the talented team at Albert Park Sports & Spinal.

Warm, open spaces and natural light abound. A place to be at home, where you can sip complementary Prana Chai and nibble some fruit or nuts whilst reading a magazine before or after class.

Describe the kind of music your teachers play during class. What's the music vibe like?

Chilled out vibe, not too many lyrics. Music to support your practice and not distract it.

Serve with love, live with passion, lead by example.

While we're in the neighbourhood, what local spots should we check out before or after class?

Hands down, our favourite place to hang out is She Bangs Cafe, just around the corner on Bangs Street. Check out the "Benny and the Jets" on the menu. Coffee is extraordinary.

If you could collaborate with someone on a dream project, who would it be and why?

Wow, what a question! That's going to depend on which of AYA's business owners you ask! We've been super blessed to collaborate with so many amazing people over the years and will continue to do so.

Some of our most inspired partnering is with the globally renowned Leslie Kaminoff. Also, we are privileged to host AYA graduate Phoebe Kiddo, now of the DreamHaus, Berlin on an annual basis for Meditation Teacher Training and we continue to support our AYA Lecturers to develop their skills with people such as Bernie Clark, Paul Grilley and Michael de Manincor.

Lastly, what are you most proud of when it comes to your studio and/or your community?

We have been established for 18 years now, in various locations from our original digs in St Kilda through to where our Teacher Training journey began in Glen Waverley. But it's in Prahran where we have been established the longest and we are so grateful for our community that has followed us wherever we have decided to call home. We are super excited about our purpose built studio and teaching facility, our "forever home", that we have been fortunate enough to open in 2018. We are very proud of the role we've played in helping many people open their own studios and for providing a space where students can feel supported to experience true transformation.
