Student level

My classes are nurturing, creative and dynamic with a focus on breath and mindful movement. I love to weave a theme or focus into my classes to create a purpose for each pose, transition & breath. With a passion for feeling good and moving with love and lightness, my classes are designed to invite freedom into the body and mind, like a guided moving meditation.

I bring a happy, light-hearted teaching style with lots of heart and depth. Expect to be challenge and supported into a deep connection with your body and mind.

Teaching Style

  • Adjustments/Assists: I love offering hands-on adjustments in Vinyasa to help with alignment or in Yin to add to relaxation. I think adjusting gives an opportunity for heart-to-heart connection.

  • Theming: I love theming a class. For me, your attention and intention is everything. If you're able to be present with your breath and your body, then move with an intention of care and connection, the yoga practice goes way beyond the physical to positively impact your body, mind and deeper self.

  • Sequencing: I love sweaty Vinyasa sequences with purposeful poses to open up the body and prepare intelligently for stronger shapes. At the same time, I really love a relaxing Yin sequence that opens up a fascial line in the body so you feel reset from head-to-toe.

  • Music: I'm really into modern, calming chants or upbeat fluid music. I love when the music adds to the vibe of the class so you forget it's there but it gives you the space to go deeper in your focus and presence.

On & Off the Mat With: Sarah Metzger

As a yoga teacher, what inspires and motivates your teaching?

I love to explore freedom in the body and mind. As a teacher, I'm motivated to figure out what tools I've learned that offer me more space and then use the practice to share those techniques with my students.

How has your own yoga practice evolved since becoming a teacher?

I started teaching yoga as a way to stay fit and feel good, but now it's become so much more. I believe that everyone has the potential for more wellness, more space, more freedom and more love, and yoga has become a way to tap into all those layers with movement, breath and awareness.

Do you have any yoga teachers that you admire and/or look up to? Who are they?

My favorite teachers are yogis who live their passion and express what they love through the practice. Nicky Grimsdale, Amy Cashman, Jodie Burton, Ari Markman, Ryan Mannix and Kelvin Wong are a few of my faves. Plus I'm always inspired by our Here Yoga teacher training graduates, because they are so true to themselves and share yoga each in their own way.

For those of us that haven't practiced with you before, what can we expect from your classes?

Expect to really feel your body, connect with your breath, and explore what it is we really practice, what energy and attitude you can bring to the practice, and what tools you can learn on the mat and then take into your life to live better and feel better in every way.

I bring a happy, light-hearted teaching style with lots of heart and depth.

What type of class could you teach all day, everyday and why?

I could teach a strong, slow flow all day every day because when you slow down, it gives you space to feel more, explore deeper, and open up in new ways physically & energetically.

Do you practice any other form of movement or fitness besides yoga? If so, what kind?

I love HIIT, running, F45, just about anything that challenges me.

What's your go-to spot in Melbourne to get inspired?

I love all the green spaces in Melbourne, the parks and open spaces near the river and lakes. Nature is always my go-to inspo.

Which 3 icons or figures would you want to sit next to at a dinner party and why?

I would want to sit with Oprah since she knows all about resilience and changing lives, the Dalai Lama to learn about how he is so kind and zen, and Britney Spears because she's my guilty pleasure for music and my girl crush (embarrassing but true!).

Finish this sentence. "I feel the most like myself when..."

I'm in savasana... sweaty and settled in my body and mind.

And lastly because it's fun, what animal do you identify with?

Mini Pomeranian - adorable and fierce. ;)
